Trace Minerals for California Beef Cattle
University of California, Cooperative Extension
Calaveras County Mineral Data
Selenium
Limited samples (n=22) submitted to the California Veterinary Diagnostic Lab (CVDL) averaged 0.057 ppm whole blood Se (SD .025). This is a small sample size but but suggests Se deficiency. Further testing is needed to identify specific areas and ranches.
Copper
Limited samples (n=21) submitted to the CVDL averaged 0.73 ppm serum Cu (SD .14). This is a small size but but suggests Zn is marginal. Additional serum samples and liver samples are needed to confirm Zn status.
Zinc
Limited samples (n=19) submitted to the CVDL averaged 0.77 ppm serum Zn (SD .23). This is a small size but but suggests Zn is adequate. Further testing is needed to confirm Zn status.
