Limited (27) samples submitted to the California Veterinary Diagnostic Lab (CVDL) averaged 0.096 ppm whole blood Se (SD 0.061). This suggests some cattle may be Se deficient. A provisional marginal Se status classifies cattle in Sacramento County, but individual testing is needed to learn more about the variation, local deficiencies and magnitude of deficiencies.
Copper
Limited samples indicate Cu is deficient. Serum samples (24) submitted to the CVDL averaged 0.41 ppm Cu which is deficient. Liver samples (18) were also deficient at 51 ppm (SD 72). Additional testing is needed due to the small number of samples.
Zinc
Limited samples (15) submitted to the CVDL suggest Zn is adequate, but too few samples restrict assessment.
