NEWS AND EVENTS

  • Two UC bred Angus cows ranked in the top .004 percentile out of 1,907,680 cows based on Angus Herd Improvement Records to identify superior cows in the breed; Our Beef Unit has been an active member of the American Angus Association for 98 years and these are the first cows to ever make the list
  • Minjung Yoon, recent PhD student (Roser) now a Post-Doc with Dr. Kyle Orwig at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine
  • Marina Ramos of the Food Chain Admin cluster (travel, entertainment, other reimbursements, & endowment account management) moves to the 2nd floor

TRAVEL

  • Joy Mench gave the keynote address at the International Conference on Environmental Enrichment in Oregon
  • Jan Roser gave four invited lectures on Stallion Reproduction at the VIII International Course of Equine Reproduction held in Mexico City 

RESEARCH

  • Ermias Kebreab coauthor of  “Beneficial management practices and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions in the Canadian Prairie agriculture: a review.” Agronomy Sust. Developm. 31:433
  • Bernie May & Melinda Baerwald, with Dept of Water Resources & Cramer Fish Sciences colleagues were awarded a grant from the CDFG Ecosystem Restoration Program ($730,000): “Linking habitat and spatial variability to native fish predation”
  • Bernie May & Mariah Meek co-PIs on an Ecosystem Restoration Program grant ($878,000):“Evaluation of Floodplain Rearing and Migration in the Yolo Bypass”
  • Alex Van Dam received a $2,000 research award from the California Desert Research Fund (PhD student, May lab)
  • Min Yoon & Jan Roser author “A synergistic effect of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-I) on equine Luteinizing hormone (eLH)-induced testosterone release from cultured Leydig cells of horses”  Anim Repro Sci 126:195
