  • Ermias Kebreab received USDA-FAS funding for Enhancing Capacity for Low Emissions Development Strategies for Agriculture in Vietnam
  • Bernie May received funding from the CA Dept. of Fish and Wildlife fo “DNA (genetic) analysis of terrestrial gastropod (snail) tissue”
  • Cassandra Tucker & others awarded funding by National Cattlemen’s Beef Association & Beef Check-off to review relevant literature about beef cattle welfare
  • Mike Miller coauthor of “Mouse TU-tagging: a chemical/genetic intersectional method for purifying cell type-specific nascent RNA” in Genes & Development 27: 98-115

OUTREACH AND TRAVEL

  • The Meat Lab crew attended the North American Meat Association Convention in Las Vegas Febr. 10th – 12th. Students entered the Intercollegiate “University Students Cook-Off.”
  • Francine Bradley offered a Poultry Health Inspector Training Session & a PHI Refresher Course in Loleta followed by judging Poultry Showmanship & the Avian Bowl at Humboldt Poultry Feather Fanciers’ Show in Ferndale
  • Alison Van Eenennaam highlighted in Am Soc of Animal Science online publication http://takingstock.asas.org/?p=2408
  • Francine Bradley attended the International Production and Processing Exposition in Atlanta & reported to the Board of the USA Branch of World’s Poultry Science Association to promote formation of a Latin Federation
  • Cassandra Tucker serves on the scientific advisory board  of Dean Foods, the largest purchaser of milk in the US, on-farm animal welfare assessment for their dairy suppliers.
  • Luis Moraes hosted visitors from Brazil. Other speakers included Ermias Kebreab, Kristan Reed, & Gabriela Acetoze
