NEWS AND EVENTS

  • Ed DePeters received the Eleanor & Harry Walker Academic Advising Award
  • Samantha Werth received the California CattleWomen's Davis scholarship
  • Ed DePeters & Ermias Kebreab recognized at a ceremony organized by the UC Davis Chapter of Delta Gamma sorority for outstanding professors who enrich student life in Davis (2 of the 5 professors present were from ANS!)
  • Grace Cun, ANS undergrad alum, received the award for Outstanding Thesis at Jordan College where she completed her MSc; she is now pursuing a PhD at Lincoln University, NZ

  • Deanne Meyer, Trish Price, Peter Robinson co-authors on “Determination of silage face surface area on commercial California dairy farms” in Grass & Forage Science
  • Angela Cánovas, Anita Oberbauer, & Juan Medrano co-authors on “Wolf Subspecies: Reply to Weckworth et al. and Fredrickson et al.” in J Heredity
  • John Eadie co-author on “Interspecific egg rejection as ecological collateral damage from selection driven by conspecific brood parasitism” in Animal Behaviour

OUTREACH AND TRAVEL

  • Peter Robinson’s student Henco Leicester had a poster on display at CANC, but was unable to attend the meeting due to the commitments of his new job in East Africa
  • James Oltjen article on “Beef Quality Assurance Benefits the Entire Industry” published in Western Livestock Journal
  • Josie Trott presented at the UC Davis Postdoctoral Research Symposium
  • ANS Students Kelly Braxton-Semonsen & Anna Haller prepared and consigned two ANS Sheep Barn white face range rams to the Cloverdale Ram Sale that sold quite nicely
  • Joy Mench presents results of the Coalition for Sustainable Egg Supply project at the Center for Food Integrity Strategy Conference on Animal Agriculture in Chicago
