NEWS & EVENTS

  • UC Davis students won the top 3 prizes at the California Animal Nutrition Conference graduate student poster competition, as well as the overall scholarship competition. In poster contest, first place was Kelly Mitchell, second place was Kwangwook Kim, and Holland Dougherty won third place. The overall CANC scholarship winner was Ashley Niesen. Congratulations!

  • Juan Medrano co-author “Genetic Dissection of a QTL Affecting Bone Geometry” in G3
  • Tom Famula co-author on “Beyond the MHC: A canine model of dermatomyositis shows a complex pattern of genetic risk involving novel loci” in PLOS Genetics
  • Juan Medrano co-author “The evolution of the natural killer complex; a comparison between mammals using new high-quality genome assemblies and targeted annotation” in Immunogenetics

OUTREACH & TRAVEL

  • Bernie May, Andrea Schreier, Mandi Finger, Josh Israel, Brian Mahardja, Karrigan Bork, Daphne Gille, Jeff Rodzen, and Scott Brandl participated in the workshop “The Delta Smelt culture program: from Experiments to Supplementation” held in Davis
  • Mandi Finger presented “Genetic management at the FCCL: balancing tradeoffs and looking to the future” at Delta Smelt Culture workshop and participated in a special symposium on Fifty Years of Fisheries Genetics: Allozymes to Genomes presenting “Estimating genetic and demographic patterns in longfin smelt using RAD seq” in Missoula, Montana
  • Janelle Belanger-Sandoval, Liza Gershony, & Anita Oberbauer attended the 9th International Conference on Canine and Feline Genetics and Genomics held in St Paul, MN; Liza presented a poster on “Genetics of Systemic Lupoid Onychodystrophy in Bearded Collies”
  • Frank Mitloehner keynote speaker at the California Academy of Nutritionists and Dieticians annual meeting in Sacramento and presented to retailers and foodservice professionals about Livestock & Climate Change Impacts and carbon footprint to Norway CEOs
