WHO ARE WE, AND WHAT DO WE DO?
The Young Cattlemen's Association (YCA) at UC Davis is comprised of students of various majors with a common interest in the beef cattle industry. We are affiliated with California Young Cattlemen's Association, which is a statewide organization. We have adopted the CYC's motto,
"Combining the wisdom of the past with the vision of the future."
Our objectives are: To help ensure the future of the beef cattle industry in California; to educate ourselves, our community, and our peers about issues involving cattle production; and to provide for the exchange of information regarding beef cattle among interested young people in the state.

At the state level, members of YCA at UC Davis have attended the California Cattlemen's Convention and have served as recording secretaries and voting members on various committees while at the convention. Members have also competed in statewide public speaking contests, as well as have helped to plan agriculturally related activities for fairgoers at the California State Fair. The state organization has a mobile educational display that travels throughout the state to educate young people. In addition, the state association recently created an educational binder full of beef cattle curriculum, with the intention of distributing it to elementary teachers throughout the state.

Locally, YCA has visited multiple schools, 4-H clubs, and FFA chapters to teach youth about beef cattle. Members are active in planning and attending local educational events such as the Chico State beef day, the Beef and Range Day at the Sierra Field Station, and Cow/Calf Quality Assurance training sessions. YCA also assists local cattlemen's groups when needed and establishes mentorship programs with these ranchers when possible.
