Morning Session

8:15-9:00 Registration and scale drop-off for certification*.  Registration $10.00** for adults; no charge for youth under 18. Coffee, Donuts & Juice will be served.

9:00-9:10 Welcome and Introductions:  Dr. James Murray, Dept. of Animal Science and Goat Day Committee Chair.

9:10-9:25 “Feeding a Whey Protein Gel to Increase the Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acid Content of Goat Milk Fat”:  Jason Weinstein, Dept. of Animal Science.

9:25-9:50 “Sociopolitical Developments on Animal Welfare and “Rights” - the Latest Chapter”: Ria de Grassi, California Farm Bureau Federation. 9:50-10:15 “NAIS Update”: Victor Velez, Cali­fornia Department of Food and Agriculture.

10:15-10:30 BREAK

10:30-10:55 “Foreign Animal Disease Model­ing”: Dr. Tim Carpenter, School of Veterinary Medicine.

10:55-11:20 “Selected Goat Diseases and Us­ing California Animal Health and Food Safety Lab”: Dr. Bradd Barr, CAHFS. 11:20-11:35 “Humbolt County Dairy Doe Re­placement Project and Sale”: Deborah Giraud, Farm Advisor and 4-H Youth.

*Milk Scale certification for dairy herds on offi cial test is performed by CDHIA at a cost of $5.00/scale. **Due to rising costs, and in order to keep the youth registration free, it was necessary to increase the adult registration fee.

Afternoon Session

1:15 Afternoon Registration (for those who did not attend the morning session)

1:30-3:00 Rotating Demonstrations: 30 minutes each (choose three). Those attending DHIA tester training or the Mating and Selection talk will have time to attend one additional demonstration.

1) Ultrasound for Pregnancy Detection: Dr. Sharif Aly and Dr. Khaled Gohary, School of Veteri­nary Medicine.

2) Nutrition and Feeding of Goats: Dr. Peter Robinson, Dept of Animal Science.

3) Physical Diagnosis in the Goat: Dr. John An­gelos and Dr. Elizabeth Dore, School of Veterinary Medicine.

4) Kidding and Obstetetrics:  Dr. Bob BonDurant, School of Veterinary Medicine.

5) Information and Display Area:  Various ven­dors and organizations will provide useful informa­tion and product literature.

1:30-2:00 Travelling Long Distances with Goats:

Karen Senn, Kastdemur’s Dairy Goats.

2:00 - 3:00 Mating and Selection for Meat and Dairy Producing Livestock: Bill Hobby, Modesto JC & “Boers by Hobby”.

2:00-5:00 California DHIA Tester Training:  Scott Taylor, California DHIA (CADHIA@aol.com).
