SpeakersKirk Adkins, Certified Farrier: Kirk is the instructor of the Farrier Science Lecture course and laboratory in the Department of Animal Science. He is a member of the American Farrier’s Association, a Certified Journeyman and an official farrier for the US-World Endurance event. He has a private practice and is the owner of Equithotics, Inc, a company that developed and markets a special hi-tech performance shoe called the Sneaker. Robert Bray, Ph.D. Dr. Bray is an equine nutrition professor in the Animal & Veterinary Sciences Department at California State University, Pomona. He has his own consulting business, REBray Animal Nutritional Consulting, and has developed the Equine Advantage Feed Line, which is manufactured by O H Kruse. He recently finished writing the second edition of his manual on Equine Nutritional Management and Nutrition and a laboratory manual for his horse management course. Jeannine Berger, D.V.M., Ph.D. Dr. Berger was born in Switzerland where she graduated from Vet. School in 1991. From 1991 till 1994 she did a Residency at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Zurich Switzerland in large Animal Reproduction and Neonatal Care and completed her doctoral thesis. In1995 she was a house officer for the ambulatory field service at the vet hospital in Zurich and later practiced in a small animal clinic in Zurich. In1998 she started working at UC Davis with Dr. John Madigan in the field of equine infectious diseases and behavioral problems. In addition, Jeannine has over 30 years of riding and training experience in various disciplines. Max Gerdes, Certified Farrier. Max has 16 years experience as a certified farrier. He received his state license at Humboldt University in Germany and worked for 3 years at a racetrack in Berlin before coming to the United States in 1990. He worked as a private farrier in Northern California until he was hired by the UC Davis Veterinary Hospital as their staff farrier in 1999. Max returned to private practice in 2002. Janet F. Roser, M.S., Ph.D. Dr. Roser received her M.S. in animal science in 1978 and Ph.D. in physiology in 1982 from UC Davis. She did a post-doctoral fellowship at UC San Francisco Medical Center in Biochemistry from 1982-84. In 1984 Dr. Roser worked as a biochemist at Monoclonal Antibodies, Inc. Since 1986, she has been a faculty member of the Department of Animal Science at UC Davis in charge of the equine program and specializing in equine reproduction. Dr. Roser is an avid equestrian, owning 4 horses including a Trakehner stallion, Feron that is currently standing at stud. Stephen White, D.V.M., Professor. Dr. White graduated from UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. He is Diplomat of the American College of Veterinary Dermatology and has held faculty positions at the veterinary schools at Tufts and Colorado State before returning to UC Davis as a full Professor in 1998. He has been staff dermatologist at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston; a sabbatical professor at the National Veterinary School in Nantes, France; a Clinical Teaching Locum at the Atlantic Veterinary College on Prince Edward Island, Canada; and sees private practice as a dermatology consultant.
