Kirk Adkins, Certified Farrier.  Mr. Adkins is the instructor of the Farrier Science lecture course and laboratory in the Department of Animal Science. He is a member of the American Farrier’s Association, a Certified Journeyman and an official farrier for the US-World Endurance event. He has a private practice and is the owner of Equithotics, Inc, a company that developed and markets a special hi-tech performance shoe called the Sneaker.

 

Jeannine Berger, D.V.M., Ph.D. Dr. Berger was born in Switzerland where she graduated from Vet School in 1991. From 1991-1994 she was a resident at the School of Veterinary Medicine in Zurich and completed her doctoral thesis. In 1998 she started working at UC Davis with Dr. John Madigan in the field of equine infectious diseases and behavioral problems.  She is currently conducting a residency in clinical animal behavior where she sees equine behavior cases at the School of Veterinary Medicine.  In addition, Jeannine has over 30 years of riding and training experience in various disciplines.

 

Robert Bray, Ph.D.  Dr. Bray is an Animal Nutritionist who specializes in horses, zoo and companion animals. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland and is a Professor of Animal & Veterinary Sciences at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. He has more than 30 years’ experience as a consultant in managing farms and working with horses and more than 10 years with zoo animals. Dr. Bray has completed two books to be published in 2007; one being an equine nutrition manual titled "Equine Nutritional Management".

 

Renee Golenz, D.V.M.  Dr. Renee Golenz is an equine veterinarian who established her own practice, North Valley Equine Veterinary Services in Brentwood, CA.  The practice is primarily ambulatory but also offers a haul-in clinic for minor surgery, internal medicine care, reproductive services and lameness exams.  She is a  graduate of The Ohio State University and completed a three-year Internal Medicine Residency at UC Davis VMTH.

 

Irwin Liu, D.V.M., Ph.D.  Dr. Liu is a veterinary graduate from Kansas State University.  He received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, and he served as an intern and resident at UC Davis. He is currently serving as Professor and Chief of service in Equine Reproduction. He has a special interest in infertility in mares and stallions and contraception in wildlife and domestic animals.

 

Melinda MacDonald, D.V.M.  Dr. MacDonald is an equine surgeon at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. She specializes in equine athletic performance testing, and has a special interest in the clinical management of equine joint disease. She received her specialty training in equine surgery at UC Davis, and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.

 

Garry McClintock, McClintock Saddle Works. Mr. McClintock is the owner of McClintock Saddle Works, specializing in custom western saddles and saddle accessories.  He learned the trade in 1973 after being in another leather business for 5 years.  He struck out on his own as a craftsman and has been making saddles ever since.  He has ridden both horses and mules for thirty years, and his greatest joy with animals has been back country travel and ranch work.
