Speakers
Kirk Adkins,
Certified Farrier: Kirk is the instructor of the Farrier Science Lecture
course and laboratory in the Department of Animal Science. He is a member of
the American Farrier’s Association, a Certified Journeyman and an official
farrier for the US-World Endurance event. He has a private practice and is
the owner of Equithotics, Inc, a company that developed and markets a
special hi-tech performance shoe called the Sneaker.
Robert Bray,
Ph.D. Dr. Bray is an Animal Nutritionist who specializes in horses, zoo and
companion animals. He received his Ph.D. from the
University of Maryland
and is the Associate Chair and Professor of Animal and Veterinary Sciences
at California
State Polytechnic
University,
Pomona. He has more than 30 years of experience as a
consultant in managing farms and working with horses and more than 10 years
with zoo animals. Dr. Bray has completed two horse manuals, “Horse
Management: The Fundamentals” and an equine nutrition manual titled "Equine
Nutritional Management".
Evelyn
Cook,
CPA. Ms. Cook is the president of the Cook CPA Group located in
Roseville that specializes in equine taxes and
business consulting. Prior to founding her firm, she worked at a national
and regional firm. She has over 17 years experience working with business
owners helping them have a common sense approach to their business
challenges. She also is a guest speaker on equine taxes and business in the
Equine Enterprise Management course at UC Davis. As a horse owner herself,
she is familiar with the unique elements of a horse business that is helpful
to navigating the tax requirements of her clients. Ms. Cook is also a
graduate from UC Davis.
Carol Ormond,
J.D., D.V.M. Dr. Ormond received her law degree from
University
of San Francisco and her veterinary
degree from the University
of Minnesota and is
also a UC Davis alumni. She currently has her own mobile equine practice in
the Bay Area. She has been active in working with multiple government
agencies in caring for and treating neglected horses.
Dr. Stover
received her veterinary degree from
Washington
State
University. After her residency at UC Davis
Veterinary School, she worked in a private practice in central
Washington and then as a lecturer at UC
Davis
Veterinary School. She received her Ph.D. at UC Davis and is now a
professor in the veterinary medicine department of Anatomy, Physiology and
Cell Biology at UC Davis specializing in orthopedic diseases of the horse.
Dr. Stover is a Diplomat of the
American
College of Veterinary
Surgery and the Director of the UC Davis JD Wheat Veterinary Orthopedic
Research Laboratory. Dr. Stover has received many honors for her work and
just recently was awarded the Outstanding Women in Thoroughbred Racing by
the CA State Assembly. She has published more than 140 papers in the area
of orthopedic problems in the horse.
