Picnic Day 2016
UC Davis Department of Animal Science
The Department of Animal Science at UC Davis is proud to host another Picnic Day full of fun and informative exhibits and activities for the whole family. This year’s Picnic Day theme is “Cultivating our Authenticity”. Nobody on campus is more authentic than Animal Science! After all, that is how the entire campus came to be in 1909, as the University of California’s University Farm. At that time, the Silo was actually used to store feed for the dairy cows in the barn next door. Nowadays, we continue this proud tradition, although the cows have moved a little farther out.
Whether it’s getting a chance to milk a cow (or goat!), or learn about the latest in cutting edge research to benefit animals in society, the Animal Science has it all. Bring the children to the petting zoo, have them learn roping, and let them watch baby chicks hatching. There will be all kinds of animals with two or four legs, also some with no legs at all (just fins). All members of the community are welcome!
