Education

B.S., Animal Science, University of California, Davis, 1994.
M.S., Animal Science, University of California, Davis, 1996.
Ph.D., Physiology, University of California, Davis, in progress.

Profile

Chris completed a M.S. degree in the Department of Animal Science in 1996 and is continuing his graduate studies as a member of the Physiology Graduate Group.

Chris examined the effectiveness of the immunocastration technology in beef bulls and demonstrated that an immunization protocol involving 2 injections (at 1 and 12 months of age) markedly reduced testicular development and testosterone secretion. Significantly, Chris also demonstrated that the aggressive behavior of bulls was dramatically reduced by immunization.

Chris's work indicates that the immunocastration technology is a practical, effective, and non-invasive alternative to physical castration in the management of beef cattle.
