Mission
The mission of the UCCE Livestock
Air Quality Program is to provide research and education on
emission estimates and emission mitigation techniques for
livestock industries of California.
This new statewide program was
established in January 2002 and addresses a wide array of
stakeholders that are concerned with air quality related to
animal agriculture. Most research and extension efforts are
related to the dairy industry. Clientele groups are planning and
regulatory agencies on the county, state and federal level, to
farm advisors in county cooperative extension, animal
industries, and citizen groups. The components of the program
are:
- Applied research in air
emission estimates from dairy cattle with emphasis on
reactive organic gases, ammonia, and particulate matter,
- Applied research into air
emission mitigation techniques and technologies,
- Extension to provide
educational and technical support to local, state, and
federal agencies, air pollution districts, county farm
advisors, and animal producers,
- Extension to provide air
quality information to dairy producers through the air
module of the California Dairy Quality Assurance Program (CDQAP).
