Message from the Chair

[] When we first met to decide what we would include in this second issue of HIGHLIGHTS, we were surprised at the number of newsworthy items proposed. New faculty, animal facility renovations, STUDENTS FIRST donations, student activities, and awards to faculty are just some of the items included in this issue.

With over 90 full-time employees in the department, we have a lot of things going on. But numbers are not enough. Teamwork is needed to carry out successful teaching research and outreach programs. Teamwork is needed to run an effective Advising Center or plan a successful Horse Day event. If there is anything I would like to accomplish during my tenure as chair, it is to do what I can to promote a sense of teamwork among the faculty, staff and student leaders associated with the department. Every person should sense that he or she has a valuable role to play in the department and is appreciated as an employee and a person. I hope you, our alumni and friends, can feel that connection, too.
