Young Cattlemen's Association Chapter Initiated at UCD

A UC Davis Chapter of the California Young Cattlemen's Association (YCA) was formed in January 1995. According to President Rebecca Hall, goals of the YCA are to educate members and the public about the beef industry and its current concerns as well as to provide assistance to its parent organization, the California Cattlemen's Association.

Since its inception, activities of the chapter have included the presentation of educational displays at the UC Beef and Range Field Day, UCD Picnic Day and Cattlemen's Day at the California State Fair. In addition, members have helped present local California Cattlemen's Quality Assurance Programs and have helped organize a statewide public speaking contest on public perceptions of the beef industry.

Members are also organizing a "myth-buster" training session for young cattlemen throughout the state to educate themselves about controversial issues related to the beef cattle industry. Livestock Extension Specialist, Dr. Jim Oltjen, is serving as the group's advisor.
