Animal Husbandry Memorial Fund

The Animal Husbandry Memorial Fund, established in 1954 by The Regents, was set up "as an endowment with the income to be used for the advancement of the Department of Animal Husbandry in teaching and research, and by the award of scholarships and grants-in-aid." Donations to the fund have been made to memorialize three groups of people: livestock producers who have made substantial contributions to the California livestock industry; persons who have served the industry; and faculty members, Cooperative Extension Specialists and Farm Advisors. More than 100 individuals have been recognized since the fund's founding, with and endowment now over $90,000.

The Animal Science Department maintains a Memorial Book with photographs and biographies of most persons who have been honored by contributions to the Memorial Fund. In addition, photographs and biographies are on display on a rotational basis in the department on the second floor Meyer Hall on the Davis Campus. Visitors to the campus are invited to view this display. The Memorial Book is not on permanent display but anyone interested in seeing it may arrange to do so. The biographies are also on the Animal Science web site: http://animalscience.ucdavis.edu/memorial

The department is planning an event in the near future which would include recognition of persons honored by inclusion in the Animal Husbandry Memorial Book, and a special invitation to families of persons so recognized.

Donations to the Memorial fund can be made by check payable to "UC Regents - Animal Science" and sent to the department. For more information on how to honor an individual through contributions to this fund, contact Edward O.
