Admitted Student Program Attracts Prospective Students

The Admitted Student Program was established by the department three years ago to encourage prospective students to select UC Davis. This year, 396 individuals admitted to one of our two animal Science Majors for Fall 1997 were sent personal invitations to visit the department during Spring Quarter. One-hundred four prospective students, along with parents, siblings, and friends accepted our invitation and were given a two-hour introduction to the department including faculty presentations, a question and answer period, and a walking tour of some of our animal facilities (see photo below). The department is expecting a record number of freshman to enroll in our programs in September.

Dairy Goat Show Team members from left to right Daniel Drake, Allison Mattingly and Nicole Gibison are shown here with one of the ribbons won at the 1997 Memorial Day Goat Show in Gridley, California. In all, they took six first places, two second places and two reserve championships. Not bad for four does.

The Animal Science Swine Show Team made its debut at the Great Western Stock Show in Tulare, CA, March 5-6, 1997. They obtained two second place, one third place and a fifth place ribbons. Way to go!
