ANNOUNCEMENT
California Animal
Health and Food Safety (CAHFS) - Tulare Laboratory Now Accepting Poultry
Submissions
In the June newsletter
I informed you that the CAHFS system was closing the Fresno Lab. I am
pleased to let you know that Drs. Rich Chin and H.L. Shivaprasad, formerly
of the Fresno Lab, are now waiting for you and your poultry submissions at
the Tulare Lab.
To deliver birds to the Tulare lab for post mortem
work-ups, you will need to travel to the Vet Med Teaching and Research
Center (VMTRC) in Tulare. The CAHFS lab is part of the Center. Leave your
birds on the loading dock at the CAHFS building and then proceed to
Receiving (through the northwest door of the east building; the loading dock
is attached to this building). The driving directions to the VMTRC and CAHFS/Tulare
are given below.
If you have any questions you may call Drs. Chin or Shivaprasad at 559

Program
The Poultry Health Inspection
Program is designed to keep birds healthy at poultry shows at
California's Fairs and Expositions (F&E). Poultry Health Inspectors (PHIs)
are trained and certified by the University of California (UC) and the
California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The activities
of the PHIs prevent disease spread, educate fanciers about health
maintenance, and promote the poultry fancy by insuring that F&E visitors see
healthy birds in good condition. Dedicated PHIs and conscientious poultry
fanciers have partnered with the UC and CDFA to improve biosecurity at F&E
shows and protect the health of all poultry in California.
