Title:  Assistant/Associate Professor of Animal Quantitative Genetics. The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California Davis is recruiting an Assistant/Associate Professor of Animal Genetics with a preferred emphasis in Quantitative Genetics. This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant/Associate Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities and includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and outreach/engagement of relevance to the California Agricultural Experiment Station (http://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/agexpstn)

Responsibilities: The Department of Animal Science is seeking applicants who utilize quantitative genetic analyses to characterize traits that impact animal productivity, nutritional value, welfare, or sustainability of animals in their environment. The research focus may include experimental, theoretical, computational, and applied approaches to quantitative genetics, and genetic-genomic evaluation and selection. The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program in quantitative genetics to address critical or emerging issues in animal agriculture or animal science. The appointee will be responsible for teaching an undergraduate course in quantitative genetics and animal breeding of domestic animals (Genetics and Animal Breeding - ANG107), applied statistics (Applied Statistics in Agricultural Science PLS120), as well as other courses assigned to meet the teaching needs of departmental curricula. The appointee will provide instruction for a graduate course designed to handle large data sets associated with whole genome sequencing and functional genomic analysis (Sequence Analysis in Molecular Genetics - ANG212) and could participate in the genetics core course (Quantitative and Population Genetics - 201D). Participation in development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. This position is expected to work with Cooperative Extension specialists and advisors, partners in allied industries or other appropriate public stakeholders.

Qualifications:  Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Quantitative Genetics, Animal Breeding, or a closely-related field is required. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Evidence of research excellence is expected. Research interests focused on quantitative genetics of domestic animals relevant to animal agriculture is preferred. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses and the ability to develop and conduct extramurally funded research in population/quantitative genetics/genomics.

Salary: Commensurate with experience within the Assistant/Associate Professor rank at the University of California.
