Title: Assistant Professor of Ruminant Nutrition. The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences at the University of California, Davis is recruiting an Assistant Professor of Ruminant Nutrition working in the area of dairy cattle nutrition. This is an academic year (9-month), Assistant Professor tenure-track position with teaching, research, outreach/engagement and service responsibilities and includes the expectation that the appointee will conduct mission-oriented research and outreach/engagement of relevance to the California Agricultural Experiment Station (http://caes.ucdavis.edu/research/agexpstn).

Responsibilities: The Department of Animal Science is seeking applicants that focus on research in areas of improved nutritional content of the product, reducing an environmental footprint, exploring alternative feedstuffs, and assessing the role of nutrition in the wellbeing and health of the animal. The successful candidate will coordinate with existing departmental colleagues who have expertise in nutrition, microbiology, physiology, genetics, quantitative assessment of production systems, and other areas related to their field of research. The appointee is expected to establish a competitively funded research program to address critical or emerging societal issues in the field of dairy cattle nutrition. The appointee will be responsible for teaching an upper division course in animal nutrition (similar to NUT 115, Animal Nutrition), and one of the following including Dairy Cattle Production (ANS 146), a new nutrition based laboratory course, or an Animal Biochemistry and Metabolism course (ABI 102 or ABI 103).The appointee will also teach a graduate course in their area of expertise. The appointee is also expected to advise undergraduates. Participation in and development of public outreach and/or community engagement programs, and performance of departmental and university service is expected. This position is expected to work with Cooperative Extension specialists and advisors, partners in allied industries or other appropriate public stakeholders.

Qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Dairy Science, Animal Science, Animal Biology, Nutrition, or related field of dairy cattle nutrition. Post-doctoral experience is preferred. Evidence of research excellence is expected in the area of dairy cattle nutrition. The candidate should have the ability to develop and instruct undergraduate and graduate courses and the ability (or potential) to develop and conduct extramurally funded research in dairy cattle nutrition.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
