Research
Currently,
I am involved with research that evaluates the use of water
efficient forages as animal feed. As well as alternative
ways to preserve and process the same forages for goats,
sheep and dairy cows. Our goal is to advance animal
production in the semi-arid region in Brazil by improving
production and biological efficiencies. By visiting the
Department of Animal Science at the University of California
Davis we were able to expand our knowledge in ruminant
nutrition, this included learning about methodologies in how
to determine both the feed chemical composition and energy
estimates. In addition we learned how to utilize
mathematical models which can be applied to ruminant
nutrition and production. Furthermore we establish networks
for future collaborations in research, education and
extension programs. The partnership among the Department of
Animal Science at University of California Davis, the
Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) and
universities from the Northeast of Brazil.
