University Scholarships and Fellowships
Fellowships and graduate scholarships of various kinds are available to new as well as to continuing graduate students. In general, citizens of the United States and permanent resident aliens are eligible for these awards. Application deadline is January 15 for awards beginning the following Fall Quarter. Applications and information are available from Graduate Studies or via the web at
http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/support/fellinst.htm.
Applications should be submitted to the appropriate Graduate Program.
International students are not eligible for scholarships and fellowships until completion of one academic year in graduate study at UC Davis.
Prospective students should check with the home department of their major professor for departmentally restricted scholarships and fellowships.
For example, the Department of Animal Science awards a limited number of fellowships to students engaged in graduate study and research under the direction of Animal Science faculty members.
In addition to the fellowship application sent to Graduate Studies, a copy of the application, along with supporting materials, must be submitted to the the Advising Center, Department of Animal Science by
January 15. Information is available from the Animal Science Advising Center.
Many students are offered teaching assistantships by a department responsible for the undergraduate course. Adequate command of the English language and a GPA of 3.0 are required for teaching assistantships. Availability for an individual department and the department specific application forms are best obtained from the individual department. Some opportunities are posted by Graduate Studies link here. The Animal Science Department teaching assistantship application is available here. Applications and copies of all supporting materials are due to the Animal Science Advising Center by March 1st.
The Financial Aid Office administers loan and work-study programs. These funds are for purposes directly connected with the student's attendance on the Davis campus. All prospective students should file a FAFSA (available at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov) by the deadline (approximately March 1). Contact the Financial Aid Office for more information.
Individual faculty members may have openings for part-time research assistants in their laboratories. Part-time employment as a teaching assistant to assist with undergraduate courses is often available in other Biological Sciences departments as well. For information about such employment, inquiry should be made to each department.
Part-time employment is also sometimes available in offices or laboratories on campus. For information about such employment, write to the Student Employment Center.
Available assistantship positions throughout the campus are posted by
Graduate Studies.
