Horse Barn

Barn Residency Program

This program is an amazing opportunity for students to “live-In” at one of the 9 animal facilities on campus. In exchange for approximately 10 hours of work per week, you will receive free rent for one year, and potentially a second year (re-application is necessary).

The animal facilities which have either private or shared rooms available in exchange for animal care are:

  • Dairy Barn
  • Swine Barn
  • Horse Barn
  • Sheep Barn
  • Beef Barn
  • Feedlot
  • Feed mill
  • Hopkins Avian Facility
  • Goat Barn

Applications are available starting early February and are due mid-March. Applications for any of the above facilities can be found in the Animal Science Advising Center in 1202 Meyer Hall.

Criteria for selection include enrollment in animal-oriented majors, appropriate animal experience, willingness to work holidays, weekends and evenings, possession of a California driver’s license, ability to lift a bale of hay.

If you have any questions about this program come visit the Animal Science Advising Center in 1202 Meyer Hall, email us at, or call us at 530-754-7915.
