  • Gaby Pedroza (ANS) won second place for public speaking contest in the Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Related Sciences
  • Other students were great representatives for UC Davis.  Frank Mitloehner quoted in The Guardian’s article “Ethical farming dilemma: should we be helping the chicken or fixing the egg?”

  • Marla McPherson, Charmaine Robinson, Lida Gehlen & Mary Delany author “Comparative cytogenomics of poultry: mapping of single geneand repeat loci in the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica)” in Chromosome Research
  • John Eadie coauthors “Non-stationary seabird responses reveal shifting ENSO dynamics in the northeast Pacific” in Marine Ecology Progress Series

OUTREACH AND TRAVEL

  • Juan Medrano traveling in Ecuador
  • Jim Oltjen & Frank Mitloehner attended the Snyder Bull Sale Seminar in Nevada & Frank gave a talk & participated in a member panel on 'Livestock and Climate Change' for attendees
  • Juan Medrano, member of the Board of Trustees of Zamorano University in Honduras, participated in their quarterly meeting in the Dominican Republic. He chairs the academic committee reporting to the Board, served on the selection committee for the president’s position
  • Frank Mitloehner presented a keynote talk on "the effects of feed efficiency on the environment" at the Western Canadian Dairy Seminar in Alberta & "The truth about sustainability" to the Purchasing and Ingredient Suppliers Conference (PISC) in Las Vegas
  • Ag Science Field Day participant numbers: Dairy - 129; Livestock - 328; Horse - 150; Meats - 125; Computers - 38; Vet Sci (Lab animal) - 112; Poultry - 79. THANKS TO ALL UNITS & STUDENTS who made it a huge success!
