  • Jessica Petersen, former PhD student of Bernie May, accepted a tenure track faculty position in the Animal Science Department at the University of Nebraska
  • Erica Scharfen, ANS alum, wins top honors at American Cheese Society’s cheese competition in Wisconsin as well as a gold & silver medals (two different cheeses) at the International cheese competition held in England


  • Cass Tucker coauthors “Behavioral and physiological effects of a short-term feed restriction in lactating dairy cattle with different body condition scores at calving” and “Effects of adjustable and stationary fans with misters on core body temperature and lying behavior of lactating dairy cows in a semiarid climate” in Journal Dairy Science
  • Jennifer Chen & Cass Tucker authors of “Dairy cows use and prefer feed bunks fitted with sprinklers” in Journal Dairy Sci


  • IX Transgenic Animal Conference, Hosted by UC Davis, Animal Science Department, at Granlibakken, Lake Tahoe organized by Jim Murray Elizabeth Maga, Pablo Ross, participants also included Alison Van Eenennaam, Lydia Garas Klobas, Adilla Mohamad Fauzi & Caitlin Cooper and others—see photo below!
  • Francine Bradley taught a Game Fowl Assurance continuing education course in Costa Mesa & refreshed the training of a San Diego poultry health inspector
  • Anita Oberbauer presented at the AKC Canine Health Foundation biennial conference in St. Louis
  • Cass Tucker is hosting a multi-state W2173 group annual meeting on Impacts of Stress Factors on Performance, Health, and Well-Being of Farm Animals, with ~20 attendees from across the country
  • Francine Bradley served as Orange County Fair’s Poultry Health Inspector (PHI) for their Open Poultry Show
  • Krista Jacobsen attended American Cheese Society competition in Wisconsin
  • Budweiser Clydesdales will be staying at the Cole Facility Sunday afternoon to Thursday morning; they will be making appearances at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery in Fairfield
