Research interest: Dissect cellular and molecular mechanisms of genetic resistance to virus infection (avian influenza virus and Newcastle disease virus) in poultry using genomic and bioinformatics approaches.
Research interests: Characterization of pig prolactin receptor expression. Developing porcine models of breast cancer. Lab management and supervision of students.
Research interests: experiments using an existing refugial population of delta smelt, identify a genetic marker for sex determination in white sturgeon (Acipenser transmontanus) using Illumina high-throughput sequencing, and analyze relatedness and identify migratory patterns among raptors in the San Francisco Bay Area using microsatellite genotyping
I have a broad range of interests and enjoy collaborating with agency biologists and other researchers to use genetic tools to manage threatened and endangered species.
Co-advised by Peter Moyle and the Center for Watershed Sciences, I am exploring bioinformatic and genomic applications for understanding population and species-level questions related to freshwater fishes.
My long term research interests involve the development of a comprehensive understanding of key behavioral pathways and how alterations in gene expression and proteins contribute to animal welfare as well as development and validation of welfare assessment methods.
