Horse Barn

Horse Barn – The Barn

The Animal Science Horse Barn relies heavily on the help of students to keep it running.  Each year approximately 10-15 students help keep the barn clean, maintained, and fed. Here you can meet the group that keeps the UC Davis Animal Science Department Horse Barn running.

Kelli DavisHorse Barn Manager - Kelli Davis

Kelli Davis grew up in Truckee, CA and began her career working with horses through guiding scenic trail rides throughout the Sierra Nevada mountains. After graduating from Truckee High, she attended UC Davis where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science and Management with Equine Emphasis. During her undergraduate career, Kelli devoted many hours to the Horse Barn and completed both the Stallion and Foal Manager internships. Following these internships, she became the student Breeding Manager for the facility and continued to volunteer at the barn for the duration of her undergraduate career. Kelli’s four years of dedication to the Horse Barn helped her realize her passion for equine reproduction as well as student education. Following completion of her Bachelor’s Degree, Kelli worked as a barn and breeding manager for a large reining horse facility before attending graduate school at Colorado State University. Under the direction of Dr. Jason Bruemmer, Kelli completed her Master’s Degree in Equine Reproduction in 2017. The main focus of her graduate work involved working with the Bureau of Land Management and USDA National Wildlife Research Center in the development of a long-term contraceptive for use in wild horses. During her time at CSU, Kelli also advanced her teaching career through leading lab sessions in several courses, including Basic and Advanced Equine Reproduction. Kelli is enthusiastic about both the equine breeding program and student education opportunities at the UC Davis Horse Barn, and she is delighted to once again be a part of the UC Davis family.
